Help provide a home for orphans in Haiti
Donation protected
I have the opportunity to help start an orphanage in Cap Haitian, Haiti with an organization called CAEDO. The orphanage would provide a family style home for 21 orphan children ages 4-12. CAEDO is haitian run by a group of citizens with no funding, only concern and love for these kids. The children they would like to bring into the orphanage are called Restaveks in Haiti. They are sent away to work in a household cooking, cleaning, running errands and doing laundry to have a place to sleep at night and possibly some food each day. They are often abused and do not have anyone to love or take care of them. A Restavek has been called the modern form of slavery. The children are completely alone and must provide for themselves. Our goal is to put these children into a loving environment where they will have food, clothing, education and a bed to sleep in each night. In order to accomplish this, we need to raise enough money to rent a house each year, pay for utilities, appliances, household items such as pots, pans, dishes, furniture and beds. Rent in Haiti covers just a building. In addition, the children will need food, clothing, personal hygiene items, school supplies, bedding, towels, wash cloths, and basic medical care. We plan on reaching out to the community in Cap Haitian as well as friends and family in the U.S. These children need our help!
