Help Jonathan get his prosthetic limb!

Donation protected
Jonathan's life changed forever on July 4, 2013 when an infection in his foot went septic. The infection endangered his life and his doctor decided to amputate below the knee. This day marked the end of one journey and the beginning of another.

Before I tell you more, let me tell you why we are fundraising for Jonathan. Lots of people need help in this world, but there aren't many of them that are like Jonathan. Jonathan has worked for Harwood Place Retirement Community in Wauwatosa, WI for around 20 years. His current title is Maintenance Engineer, but that doesn't tell you half of who he is of what he does. He has touched the lives of so many older adults over the years, it would be impossible to keep count. He is gentle and kind, funny and witty. He makes people feel calm, relaxed and safe. He listens. He comforts. He knows just what to say when someone is having a rough day. All of this applies to his co-workers too. He wouldn't just give you the shirt off his back, he would run home on his lunch and grab a few from his closet too. I have had the privilege of working with Jonathan for 7 years. It is now my privilege to administer this website on behalf of his co-workers. We hope this site provides a place for all that know and care about Jonathan to support him and help get him back to the people who need him.

Jonathan's story began in May 2010 when a screw embedded in his shoe caused an infection in the bottom of his foot. Later that summer the infection went septic. He had two toes amputated in August 2010. He was able to return to work in December, but had to have a second surgery to apply a skin graft. He was fitted with a prosthetic boot which helped him to walk again and return to work.

Two years went by with various minor infections that were successfully treated. In December 2012, surgery was required to stop an infection. Towards the end of June 2013, it became clear that there was an ongoing infection which brought on fevers and fatigue. Jonathan was admitted to the hospital with the hope that the infection could be treated. When the infection went septic, there was no choice. The foot had to be amputated. This was the end of an arduous journey.

Jonathan has now embarked on his new journey; living life as an amputee. He has been through weeks of inpatient physical and occupational therapy and is now recuperating at home. When the amputation site has healed, he will begin the process of being fitted for a prosthetic limb. He will undergo more physical therapy to learn to use his body in a brand new way.

Please help Jonathan to get his prosthetic limb and all of the accompanying medical care. Your support will help him return to work and all the things he loves.
