If cancer wasn't enough the James Lane Family has suffered the ultimate tragedy, the loss of their beloved wife, mother and friend Mellisa Hamil Lane. Father and husband James was diagnosed with stage IV polyposis colon cancer on June 18, 2014. Shortly after, on July 1, 2014 James married Mellisa Hamil. James had two lovely daughters, Macayla, age 9 and Kaeli age 7 and Melissa had two wonderful boys, Jaylen, age 12 and Jordyn, age 10. The family was complete in February 2015 with the birth of their baby boy, Kaden.
Late last night, while traveling to see James' mother, with Melissa at the wheel and James and the 5 children in the car, a deer ran out in front of the car. When Melissa swerved to avoid the deer, she careened into the ditch and the car rolled two and half times, ejecting many of the family, killing Melissa instantly and critically injuring Jaylen and injuring the other 4 family members.
James and Melissa had been battling James cancer for the last year with James in, more than out of the hospital with aggressive chemotherapy. Doctors say he may have less than a year to live. Five young lives lay in the balance.
Perhaps God will intervene and miraculously cure James so the children are not left parent-less. Perhaps He won't.
When tragedy of this unspeakable nature strikes a family, it strikes us all. Our own problems become miniscule.
We are attempting to set up a trust fund for the children, not that money can replace their unimaginable loss, but so that as they heal and continue their lives, perhaps the financial burden will be somewhat lightened.
"It Takes a Village" so they say. Well, this takes more than a village. It takes a State; it takes a country; it takes friends and family; and it takes your generosity.
