This summer we have
the opportunity to travel to the Volta and Ahanta regions of Ghana to serve as
medical volunteers with A Broader View, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization based
in the US. In Ghana, A Broader View's work focuses on children, with multiple
art, health and educational programs aimed at orphanages and villages. As
long-time volunteers in our communities, we have a desire to contribute in
underserved regions of the world. By volunteering our experience and knowledge
as certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), hospital workers, and
health-care majors, we hope to contribute to the work being done in areas that
are short-staffed, under-funded, and under-equipped. We want to learn more
about the healthcare situation outside of the US, where the vast majority of
the world struggles to provide even the most basic healthcare.
This August we plan to work for two weeks alongside doctors and nurses in hospitals and community clinics in different parts of Ghana. Because there is a shortage of healthcare facilities in the country, most people do not have access to basic medical care. As volunteers, we will reach out to help provide affordable healthcare. While we do not have our specific assignment yet, in Ghana there will be opportunities to assist local health practitioners in urban and rural settings, from the capital to small villages.
We are reaching out to our friends and family to help raise support for this medical mission trip. Our two-week trip will cost $3,000 per person ($6,000 total). Of that total, our ABV program costs are $990 per person ($1980 total) and includes airport pickup, housing with a local family, two meals a day, and more. Round-trip airfare, additional meals, and incidentals are approximately $2010 per person ($4020 total).
While we both wish we could spend more time working in Africa, we want to thank you for anything you can do to help support this two-week effort. We have been working and planning for this mission trip for some time, and your faith, trust, and support in us is deeply appreciated. Thank you for helping to make this trip a reality
