P.O.S.H. Education Fund for Pakistan

Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters,

 At the beginning of summer 2013, we"”Octavia, Kim, Basma and I"”decided to form a team and make determined efforts to change the lives of the underprivileged by raising funds for education in Pakistan.

Located in the small town of Hala, P.O.S.H. (Pioneer Oriental School of Hala) is a privately-owned school that provides basic education ranging from pre-K to 8th grade. Built in 2001, P.O.S.H. educates 222 students with its ultimate goal being to prepare young girls and boys for a future enhanced by basic and crucial education. However, in the past couple of years, the funds have fallen short, and the school is at a loss; at a point, the owner had considered shutting the school down. Fortunately, she did not take this step. Instead, she decided to raise the enrollment fees of incoming students. But with this, the students' families were not able to afford the fees that were required for admittance. As a result, the progression of the school halted; but more, the children were not being educated because of high costs. Apart from accommodating students' and families' needs, the staff salaries have proved to be an incredible burden for sustaining the school.

 Some basic figures:
-Enrollment fees range from Rs. [phone redacted] depending on grade level (equivalent to approximately $3-10).
-Staff salaries range from Rs. 2000-2500 (equivalent to approximately $20-25).

We were seeking your support to raise funds for enhancing P.O.S.H.'s educational foundation, and with your help, we raised over $2,000! Your investment was distributed to the school this January and with it, P.O.S.H. was be able to arrange financial aid for families unable to afford for their children's education, mandatory vocational training prior to salary increments for staff, and keep the school functioning and away from any threat of closing down for years to come.These were our goals for P.O.S.H., and we happily completed each. We were also able to provide the school with 4 computers for both students and staff, designating a room as their very own computer lab. Every student will benefit from it, including the three young students who will attend P.O.S.H. on full free-rides. The budget was distributed in such a way throughout the school that these eager students do not have to worry about any required materials, which they otherwise could not afford.

With this wonderful achievement behind us, we expand our vision for the children of Hala as well as surrounding areas. Countless families long for access to education, but they simply cannot find a school within proximity. P.O.S.H. wishes to initiate and sustain sister schools, locating them in welcoming communities "“ communities which understand and appreciate the value of education.We want to help P.O.S.H. achieve this with a financial and an authoritative presence in the process, providing monetary support as well as guidance in decision-making.

P.O.S.H. is in financial need to continue its dream of providing a healthy learning environment for children and ultimately empowering the young generation for future successes.
We realize that building a strong foundation for one school requires a considerable amount of money, which is why a $5,000 budget makes for a healthy start. We have had incredible support thus far and have the confidence that we can meet the newly established goal with your help.
