During our time at the Oceti Sakowin camp, Patricia and myself (Esdee) had the opportunity to join fellow water protectors in prayer and beautiful sacred ceromonies. We also witnessed the atrocities directed at Peaceful Protectors willing to stand and defend basic human rights, the protection of mini wiconi ("water is life" in Lakota), Mother Earth, treaty rights and sacred sites. The first week of December, the mainstream media reported that DAPL was no longer allowed to drill, and painted this event as a victory against billionaire oil tycoons, which unfortunately is not the case. Since this was reported, DAPL has continued to drill, accepting the $50,000 daily fine that accompanies their illegal action. The fight to protect our water, our resources and Mother Earth is not over and Worriors are still holding ground and Standing Strong in North Dakota. Leaving the camp last week to come home regroup, recharge and collect supplies was tough but knowing we were returning stronger kept the tears at bay (kindda). We must fulfill our duty, and return to Oceti Sakowin to stand in unity with our brothers and sisters to defeat the black snake. Our goal is to supply temporay living structures, fire wood, propane, tobacco(for offerings), gas cards and food for the Standing Rock Water Protectors enduring the frigid winter in North Dakota. North Dakota winters can get as cold as negative 40 below farinheit and can stay cold until late spring. Without fire and a temporary structure it becomes impossible to live in these conditions.
