San Mateo Bridge Project

Donation protected
I'm heading to the Philippines in November to spend two weeks developing a plan to improve a slum in Manila, followed by another two weeks of various missions/aid work across South East Asia.

Over a year ago, a flood washed away the homes of roughly 300 people along a riverbank. These people have since constructed a shanty of sheet iron, sheets and whatever they have found underneath a road bridge on the very same river where their previous homes were destroyed. The community faces serious health issues, with no lighting, cramped living conditions (even by Filipino standards), a lack of basic sanitation and rampant diseases. Just recently, several children have passed away due to dengue fever.

I will spend about four weeks developing a community planning case study that outlines the issues that the community faces. This study can then be used by myself or aid organisations to bring short term solutions such as health programs or basic education, and begin working towards the long term solutions of sustainable employment, full education and safe, sanitary living conditions. I will also be meeting with the provincial government to apply for a land grant for a future housing solution.
