My name is Haley and I am Michael’s oldest daughter. Michael was very unexpectedly and tragically diagnosed with advanced metastatic colorectal cancer in October, the day after we held memorial services for his precious son, Martin.
This journey has been a winding rollercoaster of ups, downs, and curveballs.. the road has been painful and long but in someways, not long enough. Michael entered hospice today and his decline has been faster than we can catch our breath.
My brave daddy loves people, especially family… but most of all he loves his wife. In one of the last coherent conversations I had with him he had one request….One that surprised me given his private and proud demeanor. He specifically asked me to start a Go Fund Me and asked that I would set it at this amount. It’s a number that feels impossible. His main motivation for this humbling request is to see to it that his wife, Debbie, has the means to be supported as she transitions to an unthinkable chapter of life without my dad. The medical bills and day to day bills are ever mounting since October. The financial burden is real and my dad can see it. We hope seeing gifts come in will be one way to provide him with layers of peace in these last days.
There is a true beauty in waving a white flag for help, one where other’s gifts can shine and lift our spirits when our legs won’t hold the ground from under us. We are there.
We hold firm and fast to the truth God is El Roi, the one true “God who sees” and joins us in our pain…. yet he is the ultimate antidote for death. God sees today, tomorrow and a year from now and is not surprised by one second of this journey. God is Jehovah Jireh, provider, so we trust Debbie and our family’s will be given everything we need for spiritual, emotional, and financial sustenance. He is good and this is not the end.
I’m happy to carry out my sweet daddy’s request in faith. Thank you all for your love, prayers, and support.
