College-Bound First Generation Student!

Donation protected
Hello, everyone! My name is Roxana Juarez, but I am best known as Roxy. I was born in El Salvador and moved to DC when I was eleven. Both of my parents are the role models in my life, because they are determined and hard workers. However, both of them work in restaurants and thus they cannot send me to college because they cannot afford it. Both of my older sisters dropped out of high school, so I will be the first one in my family to graduate from high school and to go to college.
I consider myself to be diligent, motivated, determined, passionate, responsible, funny, and sometimes shy. These qualities describe who I am because I take things seriously when it comes to academics and my life. Even though I can be categorized as a low-income student that has not stopped me from trying my best and never giving up, because "we never know when the moment when everything will change will come" (Daniel Levin). The moment has come because I will strive for every single opportunity available to accomplish my goal of becoming a professional through higher education and become someone reliable to my family and my community.

I would love to go to Mary Baldwin College, an all women's school in Virginia. I believe going there will help me strengthen my leadership abilities and enable me to help future generations. I plan to study Biology and Nursing and perhaps get a minor in writing. I want to become a practitioner nurse or get a job related to veterinary science. I have received $21,883 in scholarships from the college, but I am still left with about $16,000 to pay, not including books or fees. If I cannot raise enough money, my plan B is to start my college dream in UDC community college and then transfer out. However, I will still be short on tuition for my second semester.

I want to thank everyone that took the time to visit my page, and if you choose to donate it does not matter the amount, every bit counts. Please donate whatever amount you want.
