My wife Laura was diagnosed with a rare type of cancerous Chordoma tumor.
Chordoma tumors are so rare about 300 new cases are found in a year.
My wife had surgery and doctors informed us that they could not remove all of the tumor because it is in a sensitive area as well as a high risk in damaging the rest of the organs. The tumor is attached to my wife's main artery, optical nerves, and is pushing up against the pituitary gland.
Proton therapy which gives 80-90% chance the tumor wont grow back. It also gives my wife a higher chance it wont damage any other organs affected by the tumor. But has risks that it may damage her brainstem.
Unfortantly my wife could not start her treatment due to her work. She hadn't completed her one year of employment, she had 2 opptions. My wife could go ahead and start her radiation therapy that was fully covered by the insurance or lose her job and insurance.
We couldnt afford to do that so my wife decieded to wait but insurance had changed and she would have to meet the deductible and wait for insurance to approve her radiation therapy all over again.
Doctors would like my wife to start radiation therapy no later than April. They also recommend her to see a fertiltiy specialist, opthamologist, and endochronologist as well. The doctors don't promise that radiation will not cause damage to the rest of her nerby organs. The tumor can also spread throughout the rest of her body and cause other serious medical issues.
We need help with funds to cover for her radiation therapy and living expenses. My wife will be moving out of town in order to recieve her radiation treatments. She will be living in Loma Linda for 3 months. My wife is only 23 and has her whole life ahead of her. We don't have children yet but we would like to start a family soon. Please help my wife Laura overcome this chordoma tumor.
