#StopAsianHate with Personal Safety Alarms

Since the summer of 2020, Safe from Hate -- a grassroots initiative started by two longtime friends, Gilbert Chan and Barbara Yau -- has been distributing personal safety alarms to vulnerable populations to help them feel safer in the wake of increased anti-Asian hate and attacks in this country. These alarms emit a a very loud sound when activated to shock attackers and alert bystanders to assist.
To date, nearly 3000 alarms have been distributed to non-profit organizations primarily in the New York area, as well as to community groups in outreach efforts. Previous organizations and groups we have donated to include: Korean American Family Service Center , Chinese American Planning Council , Concerned AsAmCitizens of NY C , Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce , Garden of Hope , Homecrest Community Services, and Heart of Dinner. Thus far, we have self-funded our alarms with some help of generous family and friends, but increasing violence against our Asian American communities have prompted us to better meet the demand. We need your help.
We are seeking to raise $20,000 to support our continued efforts to help our mission in helping the vulnerable feel safer in their communities. All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support us in this mission. The funds will enable us to purchase more alarms, pay for the cost of shipping and import taxes, and maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of distribution. We will distribute alarms to the vulnerable in our Asian American communities including but not limited to the elderly and survivors of domestic violence. If we raise beyond our goal, we will use the remainder to purchase additional alarms and support our mission.
We are committed to getting these alarms out into the Asian American communities as soon as possible. Once we place an order, the turnaround time is typically 3-4 weeks. Please note that there may be unforeseen delays as the alarms are coming in from overseas.
