Our journey began in September at our son Dominic's 4 month check up. At this appointment it became clear that his head circumference growth was increasing at a rapid rate. We took him to a neurologist here in Maine to have an ultrasound of his head to check for hydrocephaly, the results showed that there was an increase in fluid in his brain. Normally with hydrocephaly the excess cerebrospinal fluid exists in the ventricles. However Dominic's was not in his ventricles but diffuse throughout. The doctor that read the scan recommended a sedated MRI to gain further insight to what was going on. It quickly became apparent that we would not be able to treat him here in Maine and have been going to Boston children's hospital, the neurologist in Boston believes that there was a bleed and that's what has caused the blossoming in his forehead. We have gone to Boston for consultations, blood work and in November he will have his sedated MRI and then we will proceed with recommendations in treatment. We have found out that insurance will not cover any appointments,procedures or care in Boston. We are a family of 6 with strong faith and reach out to anyone willing to help us to get the care our son Dominic needs and is unable to get here in Maine due to age and risk category.
