My future

Donation protected
Hi there! My name is Alyssa Wray and I am starting a GoFundMe account. The reason: because GoFundMe is awarding ten $10,000 grants to students to help them pay for their education. In order to qualify for this grant, I will need to raise money from at least 10 unique/different donors. This is where you walk into my story.
#GFMscholarship

I am 19 years old and I graduated high school in 2015 as a distinguished honor graduate with a GPA of 4.01. All throughout high school, I maintained a high GPA of 3.6-4.0. I had the privilege of speaking at my graduation ceremony. I was dual enrolled at my high school during my senior year. What does this mean: I was taking college courses, for college credit, and my high school paid for them. When I graduated high school, I had one year of college behind me.

I was awarded an ACCE scholarship from my home town to attend our local community college. I graduated magna cum laude (with great honors) from New River Community College in 2016, with an Associates of Applied Science. I graduated with a GPA of 3.65. I started Virginia Tech in the fall of 2016 as a junior. After I graduate Virginia Tech, I plan to attend Vet School and become a Veterinarian. I chose to be a Veterinarian ever since I was a little girl, but when I volunteered at my local animal shelter I knew it was my calling. My love for animals allows me to work my hardest to achieve what I need to become a Veterinarian.

I knew when I started Virginia Tech that I would be responsible for my entire school bill. I did not receive financial aid and I applied for every scholarship that I could find but received none. I know that people think I should just get a job and my problems would be solved. But, as life goes, it wasn’t that easy.

Then, the unexpected happened: my older sister contracted a rare infection known as Necrotizing fasciitis, also called “flesh- eating bacteria”. Once it takes hold, the infection rapidly destroys muscle, skin, and fat tissue. She was in the hospital for four weeks fighting this infection and fighting to save her leg. They ended up taking a large chunk of her thigh. She is presently still fighting the infection at home with the help of a would vacuum. She needs someone to stay with her 24 hours a day and she has four small children.

This is where my story begins. My mom had to take a leave of absence from work, some of her time she will not be paid for, to help my sister because she cannot do her day to day activities. And, I could not obtain the part-time job that I wanted and needed because I have to help with the children. Did I mention that my sister was a stay at home mom?

I believe I deserve this scholarship because I have worked hard throughout my high school and presently college years. I have high standards for myself and want to achieve great things. As people may know, Vet school is highly expensive, so any assistance now will help in the future. I believe if I get assistance and win the scholarship, that money will not be waisted and I could achieve my goals faster and have less stress.

I understand I need to earn my way, but at this point, every little bit will help me. If you are unable to give to my fund, could you share my post, that would be great. If you donate, I will always remember the great deed that you have done for me and I will pay it forward in the future. Always remember you have the potential to effect one’s life in any possible way.

Thank you and God bless.
