Chloe's leukemia fight
Spende geschützt
My name is Tammy Couture, auntie Tammy:) I write to you on behalf of my brother's family. These 2 beautiful girls are my nieces. Meet Chloe (on the right), my niece, my god daugther, my little firefly. Abby (left), my niece, my little cricket, is her amazing big sister. My brother Steve is her dad and Cathy is her mom. The journey has been long for all and now it continues. (The picture is a year old but I had to share their beautiful personalites).
At the age of two and a half Chloe was diagnosed with leukemia (ALL). She fought it like a champ. I watched that little girl take meds that would bring a grown man to his knees and rarely complain in the years it took to fight it. It was a road of appreciation for every minute we got to spend together but also a road of uncertainty and unyielding hope.
Now, mere days after her 6th birthday, one year into remission, Chloe is being called to battle again. The news is crushing, only highlighting how hard the first fight was on everyone, including her big sister who burst into tears at the news. We stand strong and we stand together with all our family and our friends who have been more amazing than words can express.
However, the first time took it's toll and just when her family felt like they could take a breath, they prepare for this long winding path we call treatment. To have to do it once is unbearable. To have to do it twice is heartbreaking. The toll it takes on your life, your energy, your finances, your work is one that I hope you never have to live through.
About a week or so before the news of the relapse, Abby donated her hair in support of cancer. This dedicated little girl grew her hair for two years so she could donate to the cause. She is now about to turn 10 and is rocking the short hair:) I will be joining Abby in her journey and will shave my head once Chloe loses her hair (it's already starting). Chloe is 6 now and is fully aware of what it now means to have a bald head in this society of ours. I want support her in this part of her journey and show her that women are beautiful no matter what shape, size or colour they come in because it is the beauty within that really shines through.
I write today as there is nothing else I can think of doing that will help. If I can help alleviate a bit of financial stress for my brother's family I have to try. Although both parents have supportive work environments, Cathy had to stay home the first time and will have to do so again this time. As does Steve. It is a long process that can last a couple of years. It affects all parts of your life.
The money raised here will go to them to help cover costs associated with the treatment process. Chloe and her family are at SickKids for a month for now but there are many trips to the hospital (multiple day stays) in their future. Just parking alone is $20 per day not including gas, food or anything else that comes up. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate money, it's ok. We would be grateful for your prayers, your energy and your angels.
My nieces and nephews are the most beautiful and important children in my life and I would do anything for them.
I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read about my family and wish you all the best on this journey we call life.
