Dear friends, neighbors, and partners of the Scholes St Children's Community Garden in E. Williamsburg, Brooklyn:
Last season we exceeded our expectations and raised $1700.00!! Incredible. As a small garden community it is humbling and full of so much gratitude, what we have been able to create with those funds. Thank you ALL!!! We we able to lengthen our kids singalong series, hosted 2 fun puppet shows, an additional art workshop, a fun end of summer BBQ with live music, and a great Halloween party. SO so many members of our community were able to engage in activities outdoors in the garden, all family-friendly, and for FREE thanks to all our donors.
The garden continues to grow and thrive and now we've got construction goals for 2019!! Our massive deck needs a permanent shade structure. For puppets, bands, chalk drawings, the garden playgroup, BBQs, garden meetings... and pretty much everything to ease the heat of Summer sun.
This is our second fundraising effort this season. We had an excellent Solstice Fundraiser event which has funded a majority of our summer programs for children. And now we're ready to build together, our deck masterpiece! Something seemingly simple, yet requiring some serious sweat effort and money, and something that will simply be used and appreciated every single day from April-November by everyone in our garden and neighborhood. This will be a permanent structure we will have for many years of use to come!
We're going for $2000.00. To cover our cedar wood 10ft x 12 ft pergola, roofing, labor, and any excess always goes into EVERYTHING else we host. The pergola project will run $1600.00 alone.
We have big goals to achieve, we know it. The lovely Scholes St Children's Community Garden is a labor of love and dedication. It truly takes the community to chip in and continue to provide the wonders the entire community at whole can take part in!
