Hello, my name is Jessenia Coppola and my brother Alex and our family need your help.
My brother is an Army veteran from the Iraq war, when he came back from Iraq he was diagnosed with PTSD, a short time after that he had a seizure on the day of my 2nd nephew's birth and it turned out to be a brain tumor, this happened in 2008. Alex kept optimistic and kept getting checked but a few months later, we found out that the tumor had come back and more aggressive than ever. We went for a 2nd and 3rd opinion not wanting to get a 2nd surgery but unfortunately there was no escaping it, a 2nd surgery was needed. As a family, we all stuck toghether helping eachother out and Alex still optimistic that everything was going to be okay because he was leaving everything in God's hands. We have prayed and prayed since his 2nd surgery that Alex's life is in God's hands because there is nothing impossible for Him. The doctors gave Alex 6 months to live back in November 2012 after trying Chemo, Radiation, and clinical trials.  Now it's 4 years later and he's still fighting. He now lives with my parents, his wife and 2 kids.
Now as anyone can imagine finding this out was the hardest thing I had ever gone through since my older brother has always been my hero but because he's always been there for me, I am doing this to be there for him. I remember like it was yesterday when I was going to one of this chemotherapy with him that he lowered the volume in the radio and said to me "promise me that if something happens to me, please make sure to take care of Albertito and Abraham" I was stunned because this was a man that had never even spoken about the possibility of an end, he has always remained optimistic but once I heard him say that, my heart shattered and everything I thought I knew broke down. The strong brother I had always looked up to was asking his baby sister to please make sure that his kids were good if something were to happen to him, I didn't want to show my tears so I quickly answered of course and changed the subject. That day will forever stay with me and run over and over again like a broken record because he's always been the one helping everyone out not the one asking for help. My world was upside down and still is and we've all done everything we can to do help him but now I ask to please help him, his kids, his wife and our family to get him from place to place so that he doesn't get hurt while we try and put him physically in the van. He's always been the guy that helped out people so I ask for us to please help him out this time.
So that you know a little bit about my brother, here is a little bit about him:  Alex is a prankster, someone that can always make someone smile and laugh, he was proud to fight for this country who had given us the freedoms that we have and the opportunities to get ahead, caring, compassionate, great co-worker, hard worker, the person that didn't like asking for help but instead giving it without asking for anything in return, an amazing brother, son, husband, father and friend and I've been there to witness it all. He is someone that I can truly look up to and call my hero and I hope that his sons remember that about him.
My entire family has tried to help eachother out with Alex's medical needs especially now that his brain tumor has turned into brain cancer stage 4  which now has him wheelchair bound but this extra expense has been an unexpected event. Alex is living in my parents house with his wife and 2 kids because he needs 24 hour care and my dad is the one always taking him and to appointments and thought he could have his car converted to help my brother but the miles are too high on it for them to convert it, they told us that it it not recommended to do so.
We have attempted to assist in physically putting him in the van to transport him to and from doctors appointments along with other places he needs to go and sometimes taking him to see his kids at the beach to keep his spirits high but it has become impossible to do it everytime.   Now I know Alex is a fighter, always has been and I know God is giving him the strength to fight this but at this time we are asking for you to help us so that we may buy a van to convert it into a handicap accessible one. I know it might be a long shot to get all the help we need but anything would really HELP at this time. We have looked for the most inexpensive van with low mileage so that it can be converted into a handicap accessible one. Please help Alex to get the necessary van so that we can take him to his doctors appointments. Also please pray for Alex to get better.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Alex.
