DI is a program that encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus, and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts, and service learning. The participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process. Teams showcase their solutions to challenges at regional, state, and national tournaments.
A team of seven 6th graders, Aaron Brown, Sanai Cooper, Alex Anthony, Jacob Hastings, Rebecca Ilko, Tyson Cardoza, and Billy Shipley from Samuel Ogle Middle School also known as the DI Firebirds won 1st place in the Destination Imagination (DI) State Tournament held at UMBC in Baltimore on April 13, 2013. The DI Firebirds also won the Spirit of Discovery and Imagination Award at the state tournament which recognizes teams who act as superior role models in the areas of spirit, sportsmanship, and volunteerism.
The Samuel Ogle DI Firebirds now have the opportunity to present their project at the Global Tournament in Knoxville, TN on May 22-25, 2013 where teams from across the United States and around the world compete.
Please consider helping these young scholars continue their quest for a National Title. Thank you for your support.
