Tim Ballard is a father of 9, a former CIA agent, author and founder of the organisation O.U.R. Operation Underground Railroad.
Whilst working as a CIA agent he was asked to work on the force that were tackling human traffickers. Initially he and his wife felt they could not carry the burden of such darkness in their life but after looking at how loved and safe their own children were, they asked themselves how could they not help children who did not have that same safety and love.
Tim realised he could help more children if his organisation operated independently from the government. So... he founded Operation Underground Railroad. O.U.R. To date the organisation has rescued 4000 children from the worst possible conditions.
Horrifically, these children are exposed to the darkest aspects of humanity. This organisation however, is one of the brightest lights in the world. They risk everything, including their own safety to rescue these children. The mission doesn’t end there... after the rescue O.U.R ensures the children receive at least two years of intensive aftercare.
The first child they ever went to look for was called Gardi. They tracked the steps of the people who took him to a location. The father waited as they stormed the place and looked for his son. His son wasn’t there. They did rescue 28 children that day, but Gardi wasn’t one of them. Gardi’s father cried, then looked up and smiled. He said ‘If we hadn’t looked for Gardi there, these children wouldn’t have been rescued’. Gardi’s father adopted 8 of the children that were rescued that day. They are still looking for Gardi. Tim said that everywhere they look for Gardi, they find other children to rescue.
We want to raise money for a charity that does the most important and special work possible. A charity that shines a light in the darkest places and refuses to turn away. This charity is the Good Samaritan embodied as it rescues and restores hope.
Tim Ballard and his wife are parents to 9 children, two of which were children rescued with by O.U.R.
