Nearly 6.9 trillion gallons of rain pummeled Louisiana between August 8 and 14, according to meteorologist Ryan Maue.
That's enough to fill more than 10.4 million...yes 10.4 MILLION Olympic-size swimming pools. You know the same ones Michael Phelps recently won more Olympic Medals in...
More than 40,000 homes have been affected by the flooding and more than 30,000 people have been rescued, and at least 13 people have died.
During the height of the flooding, an estimated 11,000 people were staying in local shelters because they were displaced by the storms. Thankfully that number today stands somewhere around 4,000 people remaining in shelters. Many of the 11,000 people have merely found temporary housing. Some are staying with family and friends, others have returned to their homes to cattempt to assess the damages and losses. Only 12% of the 40,000+ homes and buildings damaged had flood insurance. These people have suffered a devastating loss.
For those not affected, I would ask you to try to encapsulate the feeling of losing everything you've worked hard for, to something you had no control over.

I moved from Baton Rouge to Birmingham, AL a few months before the tornadoes hit Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and the surrounding areas. It was truly devastating to witness then. Had I not participated in relief efforts in Tuscaloosa, I may have never truly grasped what all the people that fall victims to natural disasters, lose in an instant. Some of my closest friends, former coworkers, old neighbors, acquaintances, and many of people I consider family, have lost everything. Many of these very same people were the first to offer help after Tornado disasters in Alabama. They even drove to us, and helped volunteer in the relief. This is something I feel very strongly about supporting. I am fortunate enough to have the support of several outstanding businesses in Birmingham, Baton Rouge, Memphis, and all over North Carolina. When we come together, and we work together, we can make a difference. My hope is that we can reach, and help as many people as we possibly can through our efforts, and fundraising . There is always a time that calls for us to be selfless and to help those who need it most. Thank You, for all your support. This is truly something my colleagues and I am passionate about. We want to be the change we would like to see in the world! We have shirts prepped and ready to go. We have donation centers lined up. We are ready to help. We are here for the long haul. We are #RedStickRelief
God Bless you all!!

Footnote because everyone that knows me...knows I'm an animal lover. Let us not forget our four- legged friends in need!

*There are more than 2,000+ animals that remain in animal shelters. These shelters are also housing livestock and other pets.
