Send Liz to help at MamaBaby Haiti

I've somehow managed to talk my husband into watching our five children for two weeks this summer while I volunteer at MamaBaby Haiti as an Advanced Student Midwife. My passport was waiting for me when I arrived home from the Midwifery Today conference this afternoon. According to the US Department of State, I am set for international travel :)
MamaBaby Haiti operates a non-profit birth center and clinic in the village of Morne Rouge Haiti. They provide free prenatal care, education, birth, postpartum and pediatric care. Currently, Haiti has the highest maternal mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere. MamaBaby Haiti works to prevent women from dying during what should be a joyful life event, pregnancy and birth.


As a volunteer midwife, I will be providing prenatal care, attending births as primary midwife, teaching classes, doing newborn exams and postpartum care. On my "down" time, I'll have chores around the clinic, be helping the staff with projects, working in the garden and attending church in the village.


Your financial support will make this volunteer experience possible. Your donations will go towards airfare, clinic volunteer fees, The volunteer fees are used to provide housing, meals and transportation to and from the airport/bus station, salaries for staff, as well as to fund the facility and programs offered.


Once financial needs are met, donations of supplies such as baby supplies (onesies, diaper cream), hygiene supplies (toothbrushes, soap, etc), prenatal vitamins and medical supplies would be greatly appreciated.


I am eagerly looking forward to serving moms, babies and their families in Haiti.
