Help Me Volunteer with the Peace Corps!

Hi! My name is Theresa
Pfister and I just graduated with my degree in English Literature from Pomona College. On July 1st, I'm leaving for Ethiopia to teach English with the
Peace Corps!
I cannot express how blessed I feel to have this opportunity to join such a prestigious organization in promoting world peace and friendship. The two years I will spend training teachers in English education and organizing projects and programs that focus on issues such as gender equality and HIV/AIDS prevention promise to be two of the most challenging, rewarding, and transformative years of my life. In preparation for this life-changing adventure, there is a great deal to be done. In these last few months, I have been earning my extensive medical clearance, buying necessary equipment for living and teaching in Ethiopia, and planning a trip home for my brother Joe and his fiancée Katie's wedding next May.
Due to the high cost of these necessities, I've already had to take out a loan. In order to cover these and any other unforeseen costs, I'll have to take out another private high-interest loan, incurring debt that I'll have to start repaying during my two years abroad.
This is where I need your help. At present, costs for my medical clearance are $1,030, a needed root canal is $4,000, equipment is $970, and my flight home for Joe and Katie's wedding is $2,000. This is why I'm asking for donations of any amount. From $1 to $1,000, your gift will help me enter into my Peace Corps service without the added burden of financial instability.
My goal is to raise $6,000 by June 30th. My landmark goals:
April 30th: $3,000
May 31st: $4,500
June 30th: $6,000

As I prepare for my departure for Ethiopia, I cannot help but be so incredibly grateful for the touching support I've received from friends, family, colleagues, and even new acquaintances. It is knowing that I have this support that will ensure that I am able to make the most of my time in the Peace Corps. The gift of being able to enter into my two years of service debt-free will make it possible for me to be truly present and to throw my heart and soul into the education and empowerment of my students in Ethiopia.
