My mom was recently diagnosed with Als or the Lou Gehrig disease. For those of you that are not sure what Als(amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects your nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. So when the motor neurons die the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost, so people may lose the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe. The motor nerves that are affected when you have Als are the motor neurons that provide voluntary movements and muscle control. Most people only live 3 to 5 years after being diagnosed but their have been some who have lived alot longer.

My mom has a hard time walking right now cause her left leg has almost no movement left in it and her left arm is starting to be affected now. Her speech is starting to also be affected where she is speaking a lot slower now. My mom has a really hard time going up stairs now and takes a lot out of her trying to go up them. Eventually she will no longer be able to go up the stairs at all so she really needs to get a porch lift.

We have tried to get funding from ALS and other associations but they do not help with proch lifts. So our only other way is to fundraise to help with as much of the cost as poosible. The porch lift is only one of the many things my mom will need as her disease progresses.

I know that times are tough for some more than others but any amount of donation would be so greatly appreciated. The funds will go directly for a porch lift for her.
