Emergency Housing Fund

Donation protected
Widowed and disabled mother of 3 in danger of becoming homeless by the end of June.  If you can help at all or share to try and gain attention we would be forever grateful.

My name is Heather, I'm 24 years old and I'm making this page for my mom, Joanna, and twelve year old brother, Christopher, who are in serious need of assistance. We're losing our home on June 30th, the house that myself, and both of my brothers grew up in, and although my middle brother and I have since moved out, my mom and brother are in imminent danger of becoming homeless as neither us nor them are able to provide a place that we could all fit in.  We're looking for any donations or support to find a home for my mom and youngest brother. Any and all donations will go toward realtors, housing deposits, movers etc. If you can spare anything at all, it would be more appreciated than you could ever know. Full story below:

Four years ago my moms husband died incredibly suddenly of a heart attack with no insurance, no will, and a steep mortgage. My mom has been on disability for severe and debilitating mental illness and chronic back and knee injury preventing her from working. She has bipolar depression, and severe panic disorder that prevents her from even leaving the house on some days other than to bring my brother to school and go to her mental health counselors. We have very little family, and the family that we do have are struggling themselves and aren't able to offer much assistance other than emotional support and helping to look for affordable housing, which there is very little of around Westchester county.

Since my step-father died, we have been on waiting lists for affordable housing, and income restricted areas because with my moms social security disability and my brothers survivors insurance they bring in barely 2,000 dollars a month. I have and am assisting as much as possible, but I'm unable to provide enough to meet all of our needs, especially all of the closing costs that come with renting, which is where any and all of your donations will come into play.

If you didn't know, waiting lists for these affordable options are years long and move very slowly, so even though Joanna has been on many lists for several years, she still isn't close enough to the top to get the assistance they so desperately need, and now they are coming up to the end of the time they have with a home and  have still been unable to find a place where they can afford all of the fees that come with renting an apartment.

My mom has been looking for alternative options for affordable housing for months, attempting to contact various town municipalities in and around Westchester county with no luck; all of their lists and housing lotteries are full and/or closed. It's incredibly important that Joanna stay around lower New York as this is where all of her doctors for her mental illnesses and other chronic and disabling health problems are. We have contacted many apartments that have rents within their budget however the closing costs and fees are too high to be manageable with the money they get per month and how little we have been able to save despite our best efforts.

She's tried contacting social services, who can't help unless they are already in a homeless shelter; her case worker has been working tirelessly to try and find housing that is within their budget and also suitable for someone with chronic pain problems, and we have all been doing our best to cope with the stress and fear in this incredibly difficult time.

As I mentioned above, I am doing everything I can to help my mom and brother but it's very difficult as a daughter to watch my amazingly strong mom and wonderful bright younger brother struggle to find a place. To think that my family, in less than 50 days, will be placed in a shelter and lose all of their personal belongings, as well as the place we all grew up in, and be left with virtually nothing but memories is one of the most painful things we've ever experienced. Anything will help, and I know that things are hard for everyone, so even if you can't donate, please support us by sharing. And if anyone knows of anywhere that may be able to help, please reach out and let us know. Much love to everyone who read through this, and thank you for hearing our story.
