Save Phoenix

Hi My name is Phoenix and I need your help.  This past Thursday I got sick, my mom took me to the vet and we found out that I have Immune mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA), also known as auto-immune mediated hemolytic anemia (AIHA).  This is a disease in which the body's immune system, which is designed to attack and kill germs, attacks and kills the body's own red blood cells. The attack begins when antibodies, which are molecules made by the immune system to target germs, instead attach to and target my own red blood cells for destruction.

On Friday, my red blood cell count dropped to 10 and I had to have a blood transfusion.  I was able to come home on Saturday because my red blood cell count was steady at 20.  I now am on a steroid, auto immune suppressant drugs and an antibiotic.  I also have to have my red blood cell count checked once a week. 

Unfortunately, there is a very good chance that this could happen again and I would need to have another transfusion.  Apparently, about a third of dogs who get this do not survive the initial situation, a third survive but it recurs later, and a third survive and it never happens again.

My mom adopted me about a month ago from Ambassador Pit Bull Rescue which is an awesome place and I am very thankful for them finding me and taking me in because now I'm with my forever mom who loves me and I love her!!!  I was part of a dog fighting ring that was broken up.  I wasn't a dog that was fought but they used me to breed and I was kept in a 3 x 5 wooden box most of my two years.  Now that I'm with my mom, I get to sleep in a bed with my mom and my cat Davey!!  My mom has been working with me everyday to help me not be afraid of people until I got sick.

This is very expensive and my mom needs help trying to save me!!  Please help me!!
