Tony's Battle Against Leukemia

In late June 2016, Tony started having headaches, which he thought were migraines. Unfortunately, the headaches persisted and he went to the emergency room in early July where he was given migraine medication and sent home. The next week, Tony went to his neurologist who sent him to the emergency room at a local hospital. It was there they drew his blood and discovered that his white blood cell count was more than 100 times the normal value. Tony was quickly taken in an ICU ambulance to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The doctors and nurses quickly took action and saved Tony’s life. Having a white blood cell count that high was threatening his blood flow and therefore drastically reducing oxygen to his organs. 

During their initial stay at Wake Forest, Tony and his family learned that he has a rare form of ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). Throughout the next month, Tony endured multiple bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, apheresis procedures and chemotherapy regimens. We also learned that because of Tony’s rare diagnosis, he will need a bone marrow transplant within the next 2-5 months in order to help cure his cancer.


Tony’s unyielding spirit and positivity are apparent as he has battled through this difficult disease. He has truly shown his strength and character...he is our “Superman”!
