Support for Ava's recovery
Spende geschützt
Many of you may know my friend Drenell (Nellie), she may be a family member, a friend, a co-worker, or just a friendly face you see passing by.
Nellie has been my best friend for the past 14 years. She has been my rock, as one of the most genuine, giving, supportive people I know she has always been there to encourage me to do the things I didn't think I could do and help me with anything I have needed. Well now its my time to help her.
Just under two months ago Nellie gave birth to her second daughter Ava. Not a month after being sent home from the hospital with her newest bundle of joy, her eldest daughter Malia was sent to the hospital with a laceration, that had then gotten infected. After having surgery, she spent 3 days in Wilson Hospital draining the laceration. She is now doing well, but will have to go back for follow up appointments and possible plastic surgery.
As if this isn't horrible enough, her now 6 week old daughter Ava is in the ICU unit at Upstate Medical Children’s Hospital fighting for her life.
At just six weeks old Ava was rushed to Wilson Hospital after noticing she had a fever and was showing signs of fatigue. After determining that she would need a more advanced level of care she was transferred via ambulance to Upstate Medical, where she was then diagnosed with meningitis.
For those of you who don’t know (because I certainly didn’t), Meningitis is an inflammation (swelling) of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord caused by an infection.
Currently she is breathing through a ventilator, and being fed though a feeding tube. There has been no change since she was first admitted on Monday August 22nd. Nellie & Ava will be spending the next 3 weeks at Upstate Medical under the close supervision of Upstates premier doctors.
What started out as such an amazing summer, with the addition of baby Ava, quickly turned devastating.
I am reaching out to her friends and family to help support this family in their time of need, give a little, give a lot, any amount would be more than appreciated.
