We are going on a mission trip to Nigeria. This mission trip will cover a number of locations within Nigeria.
Our goal is to provide hope and confidence by teaching basic:
• English as a Second Language(ESL)/Grammatical Skills
• American Sign Language(ASL)
• Recycling
• And using Soccer to engage the youth
To execute this, we will be gathering ESL learning materials, ASL books, public speaking materials, ettiquette resources, visual aids for recycling education, and soccer equipment to create a fun learning atmosphere for the children.
Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps are campsites which hold people who have been negatively affected by natural disaster, development induced displacement, or acts of violence. The violent acts of the Nigerian terrorist group, Boko Haram, has resulted in the relocation of 3.3 million Nigerians to IDP camps.
Since May 23, 2016, at least 188 people have died in the camp—almost six people per day—mainly from diarrhea and malnutrition so, there is an urgent need for Oral Rehydration Theraphy (ORT) kits. We will be taking along some donations to help improve the physical well-being of the children, such as clothing, books, and ORT kits.
To achieve our goal, we will need to raise $10, 000 to cover our air fare, logistics, and required materials.
A service trip is something we have always wanted to do together as a family. A mission trip to Nigeria would give us an amazing opportunity to help the less fortunate in our country. Our passion to help others has led us to participate in and run other service initiatives such as the Bring Back Our Girls Rally in Toronto, serving at soup kitchens, food banks, HIV Network, homeless shelters, providing educational assistance to refugees in Canada, and volunteering at Christian camps and autism centres. This trip will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to get in touch with our roots in a way that truly matters. Not only will we be helping others using the opportunities we have been blessed with, we will also be learning from people who have had different life experiences. Our ultimate goal is to continue to give back to our global community.
