100km walk for Type 1 Diabetes

My son Luke and I have registered to do the 100km Great Ocean Walk in September to raise funds for Juvenile Diabetes. For those of you who may not know my daughter Demity was diagnosed with this hideous disease when she was ten years old. Her world and ours was turned upside down. But like most other children in this boat she got on with her life, learnt to do her best and deal!
There are vital tools she and all Type 1 children need and this need is a lifelong one. It will never go away.
Unfortunately these tools are very expensive and for many children the very ones that make their life a little easier, safer and therefore more bearable for them and their families are often out of reach.
Luke and I have decided to walk to raise funds for them. Hopefully every little effort may help another little one and a desperate mother have access to those vital tools they need.

"Type 1 diabetes is caused by the immune system mistakenly turning on itself, destroying beta cells within the pancreas and removing the body's ability to produce insulin.
The goal of type 1 diabetes management is to keep blood glucose levels as close to the normal range as possible. It sounds easy, but in reality, this is very difficult to achieve.
To stay alive, people with type 1 diabetes must have a constant supply of insulin through injections or an insulin pump and they test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers at least four times a day. People with type 1 diabetes must be constantly prepared for potential hypoglycaemic (low blood sugar) and hyperglycaemic (high blood sugar) reactions, which can both be life threatening."
We have been asked to raise a minimum of $2500. All raised funds are due by the 30 August. Every little dollar counts and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you for your donation.
