Miles for Malawi

Hi all! As most of you know, I have been lucky enough to visit Malawi multiple times, where I’ve had the privilege of working alongside one of the most extraordinary women I have ever met — Sister Anna Tomassi. Her compassion and tireless commitment have changed countless lives. She reaches people who are often forgotten: prisoners who are unfairly imprisoned, orphaned children, and families living in deep poverty in remote villages. She provides not just food, clothing, and care, but hope, dignity, and second chances.

One of the most powerful parts of her work is her belief that everyone deserves a chance to belong and to be seen. She employs ex-prisoners within the CCC trust, offering them meaningful work and a path forward by helping to build homes, run nurseries, and feed entire communities. And it doesn’t stop there.

Sister Anna also runs camps for children with disabilities, something that is nothing short of revolutionary in parts of Malawi. For years, having a disabled child was seen as a curse, often believed to be caused by witchcraft. I’ve met parents who bravely told me they used to hide their disabled children just to survive in their villages, even feeding their other children first. It’s heartbreaking, and unfortunately it’s real life in Malawi.

But things are changing.

Thanks to Sister Anna’s advocacy and education programs, these children are no longer hidden. They are included, cared for, and seen. They’re receiving healthcare, support, and a place in society. Inclusion is growing, and it’s breaking down decades of stigma one day at a time.

This work is deeply personal to me. Over 10 years ago, I began sponsoring a child in Malawi. I’ve helped support his education through school and now university , and have rebuilt a safe, secure home for him and his family. I’ve seen firsthand how even a small act of support can change the entire trajectory of a life, and none of this could have been achieved without your continued donations and support.
