Help Us Help the Orphans of Malawi

On April 22, 2013, we will return to Malawi, Africa for the fourth time to nurture and support VoiceFlame's (www.voiceflame.org) creative arts program, which has changed girl's and women's lives since 2007 through story-telling, writing, and art quilting.

VoiceFlame recently received an invitation to broaden its writing program by taking it to the orphans of Jacaranda Primary and Secondary School (www.jacarandafoundation.org) outside of Blantyre, Malawi.  The goal is to train teachers to use creative writing to prepare Jacaranda students for higher education and brighter futures. 

Through writing, the teachers will foster critical thinking, self-expression, and personal growth, all of which will lead to the potential for profound transformation in the lives of these orphans.

VoiceFlame needs your help to help the orphans of Jacaranda. All donations, large and small, will contribute to the work of developing a reading and writing culture in Malawi, one of the ten poorest nations in the world. 

Your donation will contribute to:

$4000 for cost of air tickets for 2 VoiceFlame Amherst Writers & Artists (www.amherstwriters.com) trainers writing instructors, USA to Malawi

$500 for after school writing program for girls for one year

$250 for per person transportation and meals within Malawi

$100 for community storytelling/writing program for adults

$75 for curriculum book for one Jacaranda teacher

$50 for per month for VoiceFlame follow-up internet, mailings, etc.

$25 for materials for writing students

In addition, VoiceFlame will develop an after-school community writing program for girls and introduce writing and storytelling to adults through the school's library.
