Support Needed After Financial Scam
Spende geschützt
While traveling back from the Final Four two weeks ago, I fell victim to a scam that ended with giving away a large amount of money.
Trying to trim this story as best I can: I was on about 3 hours of sleep coming back from San Antonio. During flights, I received texts and phone calls from someone claiming to be the Wells Fargo fraud dept. Once I got home, the hoax involved convincing me an employee at my local branch was under federal investigation for giving out customers' information, and that my account needed to be closed out. One of the reasons this was believable was because I was receiving verification code texts from the same 5-digit number that I'd previously gotten Wells Fargo verification texts from. It wasn't until I got home, slept a couple of hours, and talked with my wife that I realized it was a hoax.
The best advice I can provide is to get your proper sleep and that Wells Fargo will never call you; you have to call them.
Wells Fargo will only help to a small extent. Law enforcement can't do much because the amount of money taken doesn't rise to the level of a federal crime, and it was across state borders.
So, this is my last option. I need help - anything you can provide would be appreciated.
