Healthy Waltham Needs You!

Eat your veggies!

Healthy Waltham is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation based in Waltham, Massachusetts, and we work to promote healthy, active lifestyles.

We have been doing great work in Waltham since 2004 including our "Fresh! Chef-to-School Visits" with Chef Reva serving  kale smoothies and kale-citrus salad to 2800 elementary students from Waltham's 6 elementary schools this past year.  Their reactions:

“I didn’t think I’d like it but I tried it and I did.”

“This is sooooo good. You should serve this in the schools.” [as a menu option]

“It looks like green barf, but I’m going to try it anyway.” [For the record, that kid liked it, too]

Your donation will help to support this program as well as our work with families who are homeless, recent immigrants, seniors and adults with disabilities.

Working together, we hope to expand our efforts in Waltham to make the healthy choice the easy choice for all.

Healthy Eating Programs
HW emphasizes simple techniques, ingredients, skills and recipes that participants can use  at home using local, readily available produce as often as possible.  These Chef-led programs include healthy food preparation, nutrition education and hands-on demonstration. Programs are held at schools, homeless shelter, senior center, developmentally disabled adult center and after-school programs. Programs range from short cooking demonstrations at a low income farmers market, cooking class at homeless  shelters to multi-lesson cooking series for seniors, adults with intellectual disabilities or youth in after-school programs.

Active Living Programs
HW promotes healthy physical activity in Waltham’s parks, open space and in public school learning gardens. These programs encourage participants to stay active using local, free or low cost options. HW created and printed an interactive map of a series of City walks which is available online to promote walking as a do-able, fun activity for individuals and families. HW supports summer gardening at schools and the local housing authority units. These gardens provide a healthy outlet for outdoors exploration and appreciation, providing physical activity while learning to grow vegetables.
