Fundraiser for Emilee, Tommy & Millie

Millie Mae was born via c-section on Friday Jan 8th weighing in at just under 1 ½ pounds! She has been doing relatively great given the circumstances. Her lungs are strong and she's gaining weight slowly. 

About a week ago her belly started to look bloated. It’s common in tiny babies like her, to get an infection in their intestines due to an underdeveloped digestive system. They stopped feedings right away and started a PICC line to get nutrition to her. When that didn’t help, they started her on antibiotics. That still was just barely helping bring down the inflammation in her stomach and her stomach was so big that it was putting pressure on her lungs. They decided to intubate her to help her lungs get enough oxygen and take some of the strain off of her. 

Yesterday, 1/24 she was moved from her hospital in Tacoma up to Seattle Childrens for a surgery to see what exactly was going on in her belly. During her surgery, the doctors removed about an inch of intestine that was just too inflamed. She will probably be a bit uncomfortable for a few days but should finally start to heal and get healthy again. 

We aren’t sure at this point whether she will stay at Seattle Children's Hospital until she’s ready to go home (possibly April) or if she will be moved back to Tacoma. Tommy will probably be staying home from work until Millie is stronger or possibly until she gets to go home to help avoid exposing her to any illness he could catch at work. Luckily now that Millie is here, Tommy can start collecting WA State paid family and medical leave. It hasn’t been approved yet but will definitely be a big help when it starts.
