Mark's Battle - No one fights alone

My name is Jim and I am the President of PBA Local 152 SOA representing Middlesex County, NJ Department of Corrections. I’m starting a GoFundMe on behalf of all the Brothers and Sisters in PBA Local 152 for our Captain Mark Eichert who has bravely been battling cancer since 2014. Mark has been diagnosed with a form of stage 4 colon cancer. Mark had what was deemed an “experimental” surgery to remove the mass in November 2014. While undergoing aggressive chemo therapy treatments, he returned to work in January 2015. In September 2015, while coming out number one on the Captains promotional exam, was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain. His hard work and dedication to the Department as well as to those who work for and with him is the example others strive to attain in their careers. Mark is a TRUE BLUE WARRIOR.
In July 2016, Mark started to experience abdominal discomfort. After visits with his doctors and a subsequent CT scan, additional masses and legions were discovered. His doctors have scheduled him for surgery on August 16, a procedure that his insurance company labels “experimental” and has declined coverage on, yet necessary in hopes for any cure. Mark and his Family are still trying to pay off the debt incurred from his previous uncovered treatments.
Mark has a big heart for everyone and is the most loyal and determined person I know. People who know Mark use words like thoughtful, hardworking, responsible, dependable, independent and respectful to describe him. Mark is a Family man, dedicated to his wife Suzy and the perfect role model for two young boys, Tim and Chris. The one word I neglected to list to describe Mark is humble. Always the first in line to help, he is also the last one to ask anyone for help. In fact, I’m fairly sure when he finds out I started this, he’ll be less than happy with me. But I truly love this guy … so I’ll deal with it.
This is where WE as friends, family, BLUE FAMILY and other concerned individuals with big hearts need to come together and DONATE. We want Mark to be able to receive this surgery without having to worry about his family suffering any additional financial hardships. Unfortunately, insurance does not pay for the procedure prescribed by Mark’s licensed doctors.
