Medical Service Mission in Nepal
Donation protected
I'm Samantha Yurkosky, a licensed acupuncturist currently practicing in New York City. I found my lifelong passion in Chinese Medicine through my own healing journey, and have been using acupuncture to help others on their path over the last four years. The main catalyst for embarking on the road to becoming a Chinese Medicine doctor was not only the vision of helping my family, friends, and community, but using the health care skills I learned to help individuals who don't have the means or resources to get the healing they need.
The goal of this campaign is to raise the funds to cover my medical service mission in the Humla Valley of Nepal, one of the most remote and sacred places on earth. It remains home to the ancient spiritual and pre-Buddhist culture of Bon. Located in the Himalayan Mountain range, the Humli people confront serious challenges in accessing health care. The service group, comprised of doctors, nurses, acupuncturists, and herbalists will trek through the Himalayan mountains to deliver no-cost, high-quality holistic health care to the surrounding villages. The trip is led in part by Tempa Dukte Lama, an ordained Tibetan Bon lama who was born in Humla. Our group will have the opportunity to share in the ancient Bon teachings to build deeper bridges of understanding within the region.
This is the third year for the trip, which is a core project of the Humla Fund, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the Bon culture and traditions in the Humla region of Nepal through access to quality education, healthcare and sustainable economic development. The Humla Fund solely relies on donations of medical supplies and monetary donations to provide medical care to the Humli people.
I am humbly asking for your charitable support so that I can volunteer my knowledge, skills and time to help those in need. The money that you donate will help to fund my cost of the trip, including travel, lodging, food, & support staff, like translators. Every dollar you donate fund my participation in this critical volunteer mission.
The total trip cost is $5700 (trip cost + airfare). The cost of the medical mission itself is $4800; this covers supplies, board, lodging, food, Nepalese staff for trekking & camping, & an English translator. The airfare is $900. Any additional funds I raise will pay for the required personal supplies I must bring (0 degrees sleeping bag, sleeping pad, hiking boots, etc.).
Your support means so much to me, not just in acheiving my financial goal, but knowing your love and energy are behind me will bring me loads of stregth in this remote, magestic, and challenging territory.
My most sincere thanks,
Samantha
