Vreeland medical expenses

Medical, insurance and living expenses

Hello. I am writing this post on for a dear friend, John Vreeland. John and I have been friends for eight years and for the past four and a half years he has had a number of medical problems and events that would lead him to leave his job because he did not know what was happening to him and could not get a definitive answer at the time.

Over the course of these years John had contracted toxoplasmosis (is a disease that results from infection with the Toxoplasma gondii parasite, one of the world's most common parasites from handling feral cats) which led to his having develop two infections in his brain that affected his cognitive abilities, speech and his vision.  This led to a very lengthy hospital stay and rehab.

Less than a year later lesions were discovered in his brain and led to another surgery and lengthy hospital stay. He was not home a full week when he was readmitted back to the hospital this time with cellulitis (Cellulitis a bacterial infection of the skin that is usually caused by streptococcal or staphylococcal bacteria). The doctors were not sure how he contracted infection as he was in the hospital at the time he contracted it. This stay was for three weeks.

He was home for three days when he fell in the bathroom and hit his head and was back in the hospital and was diagnose with encephalitis meningitis (Inflammation of brain and spinal cord). He has a little more of his cognitive ability back, however, he will be needing a lot of rehab to get him back to almost normal. He is using a walker to get around but it is an effort for him to support himself with the walker and he will have to retrain his muscles in his legs to carry him.

In between the two surgeries of his brain he has had three surgeries on his legs and needs one more plus he is having back problems,

He has insurance under the Affordable Insurance Act, however, his premium is very high and he needs it in case he has to go back to the hospital. His out of pocket expenses (that are not covered) plus medications and living expenses (rent, transportation, etc.) have exceeded his budget and because he is getting only his retirement {and hopefully he’ll soon will be getting disability) he now finds himself out of money and time. His rent has now exceeded $7200. His landlord has been very courteous and generous, however, he has come to a point that he no longer can carry him without some compensation.

Between his insurance, uncovered medical charges, other living expenses and overdue and future rent we are asking for your help in raising $50,000 as his next insurance payment is due as well as his rent

If you know John, you know he is funny, intelligent, god loving man and is friends with everyone and would readily be the first one to help if you need him. He is a proud man and it saddens me through no fault of his own that he is asking assistance in raising money to help him pay his bills. Through all of this he has tried to be positive about his situation, keep his faith in god, and make lemonade out of all the lemons he has been given.

Please give what you can and ask others that you may know who know John as well to donate what they can to his cause.
