Hello I am Michael Slathar, but that's not entirely important right now.
On May 5th my cousin Matthew was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia, which is a cancer of the blood and/or bone marrow. In Matthew's case, it infected the bone marrow, and Matthew will need a bone marrow transplant after treatment.
My cousin Matthew is an outstanding young man. He is 20 years old and works with children as a teaching assistant at Minnesota Renaissance School. In fact, he is the most fantastic person I know when it comes to children; children absolutely LOVE Matthew. He wants to work in comedy in the future, which makes sense because, if you knew Matthew, you would know that he is outrageously funny, super interesting, as goofy as they come, and is a positive force on everyone he interacts with; he just wants to make people smile. Even during treatment (chemotherapy) Matthew is capable of cracking jokes and making people smile!
100% of the money donated will go to Matthew for anything from medical expenses to personal expenses because he is not working during treatment. I want (and I'm sure all of my family wants) Matthew to not have to worry about finances during treatment, which, from I understand, can take up to 6 months for this particular disease. We all want Matthew to remain positive during this trying time in his life, which he has to this day.
Everyone who knows Matthew loves him very much, and want him to be comfortable.
