IT’S TIME FOR THE DREAD LOCK CHOP
Friends & Family,
The moment which many of you have been waiting a long time for has finally arrived. That's right - the dreadlocks will soon be coming off!
As such a momentous event should not be wasted, I wanted to do something meaningful to recognize this milestone.
I am asking you to join me in helping to raise funds for the International March of the Living organization. As soon as we reach the fundraising goal, the haircut will commence (and will be recorded for your viewing pleasure).
Let me briefly tell you why the March of the Living is important to me...
I’ve worn my hair in dreadlocks since 2008, just around the time I participated in the March of the Living during my senior year of high school.
The International March of the Living is an annual educational program, bringing individuals from around the world to Poland and Israel to study the history of the Holocaust and to examine the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hatred.
Since its inception in 1988, more than 260,000 alumni from 52 countries have marched down the same 3-kilometer path leading from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Remembrance Day - Yom HaShoah - as a tribute to all victims of the Holocaust.
Over the past thirteen years my dreadlocks have been a significant part of my identity. What most people don’t know, however, is that the original decision to get dreadlocks was largely inspired by my experience in the March of the Living program, which brought me closer to my own family’s history of Holocaust Survival.
My dreadlocks have always carried a special meaning for me, as a constant reminder and motivator to pursue my dreams and chase my passions, especially in memory of the many members of my family who were never able to realize theirs.
As the dreadlocks have now reached bar mitzvah age and it’s time for a haircut, it feels fitting to come full circle to when it all began and support the International March of the Living’s mission to further Holocaust remembrance and education.
The funds raised through this effort will contribute meaningfully towards covering a March of the Living scholarship for one individual -- something I feel is especially important at this moment of increased global antisemitism.
I hope you will join me in this cause.
Feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions.
Let’s do this!
Alex
