A few months ago I embarked on another "rites of passage" experience aimed at furthering my personal development, and emergence into womanhood. I was selected to participate in the Ivy Foundation and Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc., Xi Zeta Omega Chapter's 2012-2013 Tea Rose Cotillion: Pearlescence: Illuminating Excellence in Scholarship and Service. I have spent the past couple of months immersed in comprehensive programming that has included cultural, educational and social etiquette activities, as well as career and leadership development. The friendships and bonds that I have been able to form with the other Debutantes have been incredible. I am especially enjoying creating special memories with my dad as we learn to waltz together. Our culminating journey will be on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Bethesda Hyatt Regency Hotel, where we will be presented to society.
