Help me help my grandfather #dementiasucks

Donación protegida
Hi everyone. I never let myself believe it would come to this. Times are hard and my hero is suffering from the irreversible nightmare that is dementia. His name is Jimmy Ogles. For those of you that know him, you know that he is the most kind, caring, considerate, hard working, hilarious, nurturing, helpful, and generous man I’ve ever met. He taught me many things and has forever been someone I’ve looked up to. From the fishing trips, to the hesitant trips to Toys-R-Us, to going to all of my sporting and academic events, to driving me to high school when I was too stubborn to get my license... he has been a giant rock in the foundation of my life. And now he isn’t quite sure who I am. Jimmy, my grandfather, has been battling dementia for the better part of a decade. Due to complications from this, he has been hospitalized numerous times over the past few years. My grandmother, Margaret Ogles, is his loving wife of 56 years. They have been joined at the hip since they met. With this being said, this is devastating on her and she is struggling to pay the medical bills from all of these visits. She would kill me if she knew I was making this because the two of them are the human embodiments of “self made.” She is struggling to pay bills from 2 years ago and this week alone will be about $5,000 that she just doesn’t have. But she would never let any of us know that. Also, my grandfather’s condition has drastically worsened recently to the point where he doesn’t know who he himself is, who anyone else is, what his house is, or almost anything else. He is a fighter though and continues to move around and fall which obviously is not sustainable. We also need help with in-home-care for him or possibly some sort of nursing home. Once again, they don’t really have a real way to pay for this. We have been trying to handle it ourselves for years but recently this dementia really has all of us in a metaphorical chokehold. He is a danger to himself without real, professional help at this point. So basically I’m asking for anything to help them. I can’t stand watching my grandmother (who has her fair share of medical problems to say the very least) continue to stress over being able to take him to the hospital or get him the help he needs because of money. They need help. We need help. I don’t take posting something like this lightly and am fully aware that this is my last-ditch effort to help out my grandparents. I want these beautiful people to be able to live the last chapter of their life with as little stress as they can and I will do everything in my power to make sure that happens. I don’t expect any donations (I know how challenging times are right now). If this spreads awareness about how dementia or Alzheimer’s can affect lives to even one person, then I believe this post is beneficial. If you can help we would all appreciate it. Jimmy (known as “granddaddy” to us grandkids) needs your help. He deserves the damn world and I love both of them more than I could ever put into words. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this, Jake #dementiasucks (Also the picture is a poster I made for him in elementary school) Update- Granddaddy passed away the morning of August 2nd. We will miss him dearly. Thank you for all of the love.
