Rahkim “ROC” Mathis Road To Recovery Covid-19
Spende geschützt
This is the story of a family man, and friend ROC, who has been struggling for the past month after testing positive for Covid-19. Things are turning around and getting better slowly, but it’s a long road to recovery for him and his family so anything will help.
Below is a shortened story of what ROC and his family have been through told by his wife Jovan
As of April 23rd it has been 30 days that ROC has been in the hospital. For the first 3 to 4 days doctors had told me to prepare for his funeral, he was not getting any better. He was actually getting worse. 3 days into his admission he was put on a ventilator into a induced coma and paralyzed. He was strapped to a hospital bed and was prone every 8 hours to shift the fluid off his lungs to try and get him to breathe. By day 11 of being in the hospital I got a call from the doctors telling me there's nothing more they could do at the hospital he was in, and they wanted to try to put him on a machine called ECMO. ECMO is an artificial lung that filters the blood in your body through and IV in your neck and groin. It takes the blood out of your neck cleans it through the machine that puts it back in your body. By day 12 of being in the hospital Rahkim was slowly coming out of his coma. Day 15, Rahkim was officially taken off of the ECMO machine. His blood was getting back to normal and things started to look good.
He was given a tracheostomy on day 17 was finally starting to breath on his own. He was slowly improving. Over the next few days his breathing kept improving by day 21 he was able to be off the ventilator for 5 hours the next day it went to 6. After being in the hospital for 22 days, a nurse was so kind as to facetime me and I was able to see his face, he couldn't talk and didn’t remember much. This man is a fighter. Day 25 he was completely breathing on his own which shocked the doctors because he had just gotten off the ventilators. Things are looking good. But he still can’t talk due to the tracheostomy. On the 21st of this month, he was able to say a few words and physical therapy is working. Yesterday he took a few steps and today walked from the hospital bed to the bathroom.
Thank you for donations in advance,
