For the last five years, Barefeet Theatre has brought joy, fun and celebration to over 1,000 vulnerable and homeless children in Zambia with a fun-filled Christmas show. Every year they gratefully receive small financial donations and food packages from local organisations but this year Zambian businesses are struggling due to day long power cuts so Barefeet needs more help!
This year’s Christmas show is a Barefeet Theatre version of 'The Emperor's New Clothes'. It will be a mix of theatre, circus, comedy and music based on the famous story by Hans Christian Andersen. The story will come alive with Barefeet’s high-energy acrobatics alongside daredevil performers from Circus Zambia. On the day, children receive a small present, enjoy a snack among friends and be entertained by a hilarious Barefeet Theatre performance.
Who is Barefeet Theatre?
Founded in 2006, Barefeet Theatre is a dynamic and creative charity organisation that works with children living on the street, or at risk of living on the streets of Zambia. They use the arts as a way to introduce these children to safer and happier futures.
Together we aim to:
Create a safe space where the kids can celebrate the festivities in a dignified manner, educate them on life skills and especially about their personal safety during the festive season.
Your support:
You play a valuable part in creating a magical experience for over 1,000 vulnerable children. Give them an opportunity to have a snack and a present among friends. Give the former street children an opportunity to speak to their peers who are still living on the street.
Here are a few options of how you can make a difference:
$20US / £15 = 1 ticket, a snack and a gift for a child
$60US £40= Popcorn machine hire and popcorn for 200 children
$80 US/ £60 = 1 bus to transport 30 children from outside Lusaka to Lusaka Playhouse.
$100 US / £80 = Quality circus equipment hire
$200US = A Barefeet Theatre’s performer fee for the season
Any additional donations will support the sustainability of the organisation and outreach initiatives to vulnerable children through out Zambia .
