Baby Embrie Christiaens

Baby Embrie Blair Christiaens was born to Clint and Malia (Curry) Christiaens on April 22, 2020 in Whitefish, MT.  Embrie was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries, which is a rare, and extremely serious, congenital heart defect.  The two main arteries leaving the heart are transposed and she also has a hole in her heart, which turns out to be a huge blessing!

Embrie was medivacked to Kalispell, MT initially, then immediately to the Children's Hospital Colorado Heart Institute with her Daddy.  Mommy was not able to fly after the birth so her parents, Scott and Shawna Curry of Valier, MT, drove Malia to Colorado as soon as she was released.  Thankfully, Clint’s parents, Rod and Jackie Christiaens, also of Valier, MT, were able to meet Clint there and help him during this crisis until Mommy arrived.

Embrie had a surgery on Friday, April 24th, to keep her oxygen stable, and believe it or not, enlarge the hole in her heart.  She is doing well, however, she will have a six-hour open heart surgery tomorrow, Monday, April 27, 2020.  Baby Embrie will be in ICU for at least a week, and an uncertain number of weeks as a patient.  The ongoing is unknown as she will need several follow-up appointments in the future.

Clint and Malia cannot be with the baby together, so there is yet another struggle.  Clint and Malia have had to make alternative living arrangements so the one not with Baby Embrie has a place to stay, as the Ronald McDonald house is closed due to COVID-19.  Malia is completing her Bachelor’s in Nursing (actually, taking an exam tonight) and will graduate in May.  Clint is employed as an Electrician’s Assistant, but his position has been affected by COVID-19.
