TasgotBas SMS is a bulk SMS messaging initiative started late January 2019. The initiative aims to invite Sudanese people inside Sudan to participate in the processions, strikes and civil disobedience organized and scheduled by the Sudanese professionals association (SPA) during the great uprising started in December 2018. Initially, TasgotBas SMS was complementing social media efforts in promoting the different revolutionary activities. On the 3rd of June, the Military Transitional Council (TMC) and the Janjaweed forces have committed a bloody massacre followed by internet shutdown to date all over the country. Therefore, SMS has become one of the main communication channels, if not the only, to reach out the mostly-isolated Sudanese inside the country. TasgotBas SMS has contributed significantly in spreading information before and after the internet shutdown such that it has gained high credibility among the people of Sudan. For instance, more than 100K SMS were sent for the civil disobedience that took place on the 9th of June and over 1M SMS were sent for the million-march on June 30th. The latter is probably the largest wave of SMS bulks sent in the Sudanese history. Moreover, smaller bulks of SMS have been continuously sent to lift up and inform people during the critical and frustrating periods. With the clear intention of the TMC for not returning the internet and specifically the social media services, TasgotBas SMS does need to continue which indeed requires donations and support.
