Typhoon Bopha Relief - Palau
My wife and I recently returned from living in Palau for two years where we served in the Peace Corps as teachers and community development workers in Ngaraard State.
On December 2nd 2012, Palau was hit by Typhoon Bopha and while early reports are that many communities saw some damage, our community was nearly destroyed. Our host family is without housing as are many of our former neighbors, fellow teachers and friends.
Please help us raise money for the relief and rebuilding efforts that are desperately needed now to help the rural communities of this small island get back on their feet.
The money we raise on this website will go directly to Bethania High School, the only all-girls high school in Micronesia. We lived in faculty housing at Bethania for two years; it is our home away from home. Bethania has a small staff and approximately 50 students. We were told that everyone is alive, except the pig.
The biggest obstacle for the school now is resources. The girls' dormitories and faculty housing will require many repairs, the damage in the computer lab appears to be extensive, and the brand new library will also require some help. Any financial help you can give would be greatly appreciated by students, staff and community members.
