Help me get a visa & defeat sexism!
Donation protected
I am a female commercial diver, my name is Amanda. I recently moved to Sydney, Australia and I am struggling to get enough money to pay for my work visa ($3000 application fee).
Here is why I am asking you all for help, and why you should care about my problem (please?)
I thought I would be able to work offshore in South-East Asia and save up some cash for the visa application. However, I have been turned down from three jobs in the past month on the sole basis of my gender (there are very few women commercial divers in the world). Apparently some offshore platforms just do not accept females.
This is very disheartening (you can read about how disheartening it really is here). Moreover, as a result of this sexism, I am now in a rut, as I cannot earn money until I have this visa, and it seems that being a female is preventing me from earning any in SE Asia.
I feel odd about having to ask online, but I also think that people could care about helping me bypass sexism, get my work visa so I can start working in Australia, where misogyny is illegal (thank God).
Thank you very much for any help you can give me.
