1000k Run Across TN for Families in Appalachia

Donation protected
The opioid crisis in Appalachia has been around for decades, with the region being one of the hardest hit areas in the United States. Although the opioid epidemic has affected all states in the US, the Appalachian region has taken a far more devastating toll than most other regions.

Opioids have had a devastating effect on Tennessee, especially in East Tennessee. The misuse of opioids created an epidemic in the state and it has only continued to worsen over the years. In 2018, the number of opioid overdose deaths in Tennessee was the highest it’s ever been. More than 1,300 Tennesseans died from an opioid-related overdose in that year alone.

The hardship and devastation felt by the families and especially the children of those suffering from addiction is heartbreaking. It's some of society’s most vulnerable that feel the weight and the aftermath of addiction. Grandparents are left raising their grandchildren or children are oftentimes left to fend for themselves in abusive and neglectful home environments or worse left homeless and on the street.

This September I’ll be running across the state of Tennessee to raise awareness and money for the children and families of those affected by the opioid epidemic.

I’ll be partnering with individuals and the Run4Water ministry to ensure the money goes directly to those in need in Appalachia. Run4Water has built a relationship with the Sneedville community and through a partnership with its community members we will work hands on to help reach those families most in need.

All money donated will go directly to funding this effort and to the families in need. I’ll be running 621 miles diagonally across the state of Tennessee. From the furthest point across the Mississippi to the highest tip up into Virginia just outside of Whitetop.

Greg Armstrong the founder of Run4Water originally designed this 1000k route. It will be all road and will mainly utilize the Memphis Bristol Hwy along with other highways to traverse the state. My goal is 60 miles a day. I hope to complete this traverse in 10-12 days.

We will have the route available and would love for you to join for some miles or come lend a hand. We will also be accepting donations for lodging, gas, and meals. Making sure those items are covered gives us the opportunity to give the maximum amount possible where it’s needed most.

We are so grateful for all of your support and cannot wait to share this journey with you. If you would like to donate, collaborate, or sponsor please reach out. We look forward to working together to help the children suffering the effects of the opioid crisis.
