Expenses for Heart Patient

$1,940 of $5,000 goal

This is to defray costs of my medical treatments, transportation, and living expenses. I currently try to live on disabilty and a part-time job. I live alone. I am in congestive heart failure and require a replacement defib/pacemaker in the next month.

Though I can drive, my car broke down almost 2 years ago and the company responsible refused to honor the warranty. I had to sell the car and now rely on public transportation for everything, which is much more expensive than a cheap car.

Increases in rent and reduction of work hours, combined with medical and transportation costs,  has now made it impossible to meet ordinary living expenses. Meeting my next rent payment is unlikely. I have canceled medical appointments for financial reasons, and put off some medications. My "official" income places me just out of reach of most assistance programs. For example, I receive a whopping $16/month in food stamps.

I have set my goal as the bare minimum I believe will get me back to some degree of self-sufficiency. I realise I am one of many in this type of situation. Words cannot describe the gratitude I have for any assistance.

Thank you!

Hello everyone. Thanks to all of you for your help.

The good news. My pacemaker/ICD replacement went well about a week ago. I returned home on Friday, and with limitations went back to work on Monday. My followup on last Tuesday went well.

Less good news. Medicare should cover $31,000 of the estimated cost. I need to cover roughly $300 out-of-pocket. That is not a bad ratio. But for me it's two weeks pay.

I am not on any social media websites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). I would appreciate anyone posting a link to the GoFundMe page on these platforms.

Thanks again for everything. Lewis.

Hello all,

I am scheduled to undergo out-patient surgery on May 5th to replace my pacemaker/defib. The battery in my current device is dying, and the unit is replaced instead of doing any type of battery change. It will be an upgrade. I go in on the 4th for tests prior to the procedure. If all goes well, I should be back at work on Monday, the 8th.

In good news, I received an increase in my food stamp allotment, starting next week.

Thanks to all those who helped me with my financial difficulties.

Thanks again!

Thanks to everyone for your generosity.

I began "beeping", my pacemaker telling me it's time for a change. I have already scheduled an appointment on April 18th to see the cardiologist. My guess is he will not want to wait much longer for the operation. It is considered an out-patient procedure. But, when I first got the pacemaker, complications required me to stay in the hospital. So I have to be prepared for anything.

Thanks again.
