Cancer Support in Central Texas

Many people, upon hearing that you have cancer see it as an automatic death sentence and look at you as the walking dead. The whole experience so often becomes very depressing. There are stares because you lost all your hair. You have to wear a mask to do your shopping.
There was no where that I could go and be around people who didn’t identify me as a topic monopolizer. You can't help, but to be the center of attention or someone who catches the stares and glances. I didn't want to be the topic of conversation AT ALL! I wanted to be treated like myself.
Survivors & Thrivors On Purpose was born out of the needs of those who were newly diagnosed or are struggling with cancer.
Our goal is to raise $100,000.00 to lease a building in Killeen, Texas, for 5 years. We have a wonderful staff to assist us in writing grants and obtaining much needed funds. This is just another step in order to reach our goal.
Often it is not the cancer that kills; it’s the quality of life. Join us and donate what you can.
By donating to our building fund you will improve the quality of life in Central Texas of those touched by cancer who are isolated in their homes and feel evicted from society because they have cancer.
We currently occupy 2 rooms in my home. As more people sign up for our services and attend our meetings daily. We have outgrown these two rooms.
My name is Susie “Neesy” Croft. I am a mother of 4, grandmother of 8, and great-grandmother. In August of 2014, I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I was an active and vibrant business woman active in my community until I had to close my business (www.facebook.com/naturallymeatc) and begin cancer treatment. Surviving cancer is an automatic lifestyle change, to say the least!
They tell you that eating healthy, exercising, and avoiding people with any type of illness is a must. So how do you know? Where do you go? I mean, really?!
How do you eat healthy while going through chemotherapy? You THINK you're eating healthy, but no one told you that if you eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice that it decreases the effectiveness of the chemotherapy.
Exercise? Where?? In a local germ infested gym? It seems counter-intuitive and counter-productive!
Human interation is a must though. Where do I go to get this human interaction without puting my life at risk or becoming uncomfortable or causing discomfort because of my visible struggle?
Who can you talk to once you receive a diagnose of cancer? They refer you to their in-house support group. It seems like it always met "yesterday" and you have to wait an entire month for the next one.
You try to research your cancer, only to be confused about so many opinions and so many agendas.
Survivors & Thrivors On Purpose is a cancer support services center. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of all those touched by cancer through prevention, research, education, and services. We will encourage and support you from your initial diagnosis extending through aftercare.
Think of us a your local recreation center for those touched by cancer.
Our Cancer Support Services Center will be located outside the clinical setting of the local hospital, which makes us available to the community during and after normal business hours.
We will be your one-stop place for all cancer support services in the community.
Our services are FREE, and our cancer population is growing. Everyone knows someone touched by cancer. We want to be able to serve Central Texas cancer survivors with all the services we have to offer.
Many dollars have been donated to fight cancer and find the cure, but they have yet to find a cure for the depression, isolation, and lifestyle change that comes with the cancer.
