The Ethiopia Observer, http://www.ethiopiaobserver.com, is news and opinion website based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It offers a mix of reportage, essays and thoughtful reviews. An independent voice in Ethiopian media, the Ethiopia Observer provides enlightening commentary and vigorous debate on the issues that affect the nation. The website is also dedicated to telling stories about Ethiopian culture, roots, and history. The site's sections includes politics, art & life, business, entertainment, sports, education, media, travel, and entertainment. The web was started in 2014.  Although the magazine is based in Addis Ababa, its scope is national. The website was founded by Addis Ababa-based journalist, writer Arefaynie Fantahun, who’s published essays, and articles in a wide variety of publications, including the Daily Monitor, the Sub Saharan Informer, the Ethiopian Reporter, Mail and Guardian’s Voices of Africa and Music in Africa, http://musicinafrica.net/users/arefaynie-fantahun.

Ethiopiaobserver.com will continue the uncompromising journalistic tradition, combining a vibrant website that carries the latest national and international news each day that both reports and analyzes news of interest to Ethiopians and beyond. Naturally, there are many costs associated with producing first-rate journalism, including building and maintaining a vibrant website, paying staff, subscribing to the Associated Press and other news services, creating an app and other expenses.

The money collected will be used for Ethiopia Observer needs to hire writers, editors, and designers to help create regular and up-to-date features  update the website, which runs on outdated and unsecure software,  build systems to create new types of web content, and features to attract new readers, construct a system to track subscribers, which will enable the web to sustain itself into the future and allow us to provide future generations with the lessons and entertaining stories from our past.

Developing vast collections of archival and historical and contemporary records, audio, visual material, photographs and manuscript collections are important in informing the current and the coming generation. But as mentioned above, none of this is free and, quite candidly, we need your help to sustain us. The more money we raise, the more voices we find, and the more stories we can tell.

We are pleased to offer a variety of gifts to express appreciation to donors who help us keep the spirit of innovation and renew an interest in our country’s history, culture, arts. We promise to send you timely updates on the process of our website. We will be in touch to collect your mailing details to send your reward, such as Ethiopian music CDS and books.
